Have you ever found yourself suspended between two versions of yourself—no longer who you were, but not yet who you’re becoming? That tender, vulnerable space where the old has fallen away, but the new hasn’t quite taken shape?

This is liminal space: the threshold between chapters, the pause between breaths, the sacred waiting room of transformation.

When I was six years old, I begged my parents for a two-wheeled bicycle. On my birthday, they gifted me a shiny red and white bike, perfect for my size. But after all that pleading, I refused to ride it, and I wouldn’t let anyone help me either.

That bicycle sat against the side of our house all summer while I sat on the opposite side of the driveway, just… looking at it. Examining every curve of the handlebars, how the chain wrapped around the gears, and imagining what it would feel like to ride it.

For months, I stayed in that in-between space—wanting to become a bike rider, but not quite there yet.

Then in September, I got on that bicycle and rode away. I fell only once. After that summer of visualization, of becoming a bike rider in my mind and heart first, my body simply knew what to do.

The Gift of “Getting Ready” Time

That summer taught me something profound about transformation: Sometimes we need to sit with who we’re becoming before we can embody it. The liminal space is where we’re doing the invisible work of becoming.

Maybe you have a crystal-clear vision of your future self, or perhaps just a vague sensing of something different calling you forward. Either way, this in-between time isn’t wasted. You’re not stuck. You’re getting ready.

You’re studying the terrain of your new life. You’re releasing old patterns that no longer fit. You’re building the internal architecture to support who you’re becoming. Just as I spent that summer becoming a bike rider in consciousness before I ever pedaled away, you’re becoming your next self from the inside out.

When the Threshold Feels Too Long

I know this space can feel unbearably vulnerable. Six months ago, you were one person. Six months from now, you’ll be another. But today? Today you’re neither and both, suspended between certainties.

This is exactly where the magic happens.

In hypnotherapy, I guide clients through powerful visualizations of their emerging selves—not to rush the process, but to befriend it. When you can see yourself clearly in that new role, feel it in your bones, know it as already yours, the actual stepping-in becomes as natural as getting on a bike you’ve already ridden a thousand times in your mind.

Sometimes we need someone to sit with us on that metaphorical driveway, honoring our readiness and not-yet-readiness, until that September moment arrives when we simply know: it’s time. If you’d like a guide during this sacred threshold time, I invite you to fill out my intake form.

If we’re a good fit, I  can support you in discovering how to:

  • Hold steady in the uncertainty without rushing forward or retreating back
  • Visualize your emerging self with such clarity that stepping into that role feels inevitable
  • Transform waiting time into powerful preparation time
  • Trust the wisdom of your own perfect timing

Where are you in your own liminal journey? Are you still studying the bike, beginning to reach for the handlebars, or are you sensing that your September moment is near?
