All of us live with a foot in two worlds, whether we realize it or not.
There’s the human world: full of tasks, duties, and endless to-do lists. The world of bills to pay, groceries to buy, emails to answer, and problems to solve. This is where most of us live most of the time, rushing from one responsibility to another, rarely taking a moment to breathe.
And then there’s the world of the Inner Angel, your soul, your divine essence, that desires something completely different. Your Inner Angel isn’t concerned with your productivity. It seeks to love more, appreciate more, and grow through greater awareness. It wants you to notice the warmth of the sunshine on your face, feel gratitude for simple goodness, and be fully present to the miracle of being alive.

We spend so much of our lives immersed in the human world that we can forget the soul world exists.
We become worn out by busyness. We lose connection with what makes life meaningful. But what if we could combine these worlds more gracefully? What if we could infuse our human responsibilities with soul? Not abandon our lives, but transform them through presence?
That’s what your Inner Angel longs for. Not for you to quit your job and move to an ashram, but for you to wash dishes while appreciating the warm water on your hands. To drive to work while loving the people you’re going to serve. To pay bills while being aware of the abundance that allows you to do so.
The integration of these two worlds is what creates excitement, joy, and even bliss in our daily lives.
Let me tell you a story.
In my late husband’s final year, we decided together to set aside all marital issues from our 30-year relationship and focus only on love and happiness.
We promised to love each other completely and cherish every remaining moment together, letting go of the past so we could rejoice in each other’s company.
And for the most part, we succeeded.
One day, I was pushing my husband in a wheelchair into the hospital for yet another radiation treatment on his brain, where the cancer had metastasized. As we moved along the path, he looked up at me and said, “See, this is what I mean.”
I was confused. “No, I don’t understand.”
He looked up at me again and smiled in a way that lit up his whole face. “It’s sunny, the day is beautiful, you’re here, that’s everything I need.” And he beamed happiness.
I was stunned.
He was about to have his brain irradiated again. But that was irrelevant to him. He was wholly immersed in sunshine, beauty, and love. I’ve never forgotten that day because it captured exactly what we had intended. We were together. It was sunny. He was happy.
Because we agreed to focus on love and joy together as long as he was alive, our last year together was our best year. Everything about our circumstances was wrong, but everything about our state of being was right.
My husband had entirely surrendered to what his Inner Angel wanted. Not to the cancer. Not to despair. But to love. To beauty. To presence. To joy. And here’s what I learned: If he could find that immersion in day-to-day joy while dying from cancer, what excuse do any of us have for not finding it in our ordinary lives?
The truth is, we’re waiting. Waiting for circumstances to be perfect. Waiting to finish the to-do list. Waiting to solve all our problems. Waiting until we have time, until we have energy, until life gets easier.

But your Inner Angel isn’t waiting. It’s here now, inviting you into presence, into appreciation, into love.
So I’m asking you:
Can you stay aware of the sensual experience of your body that nourishes your Inner Angel? The warmth of your coffee cup. The softness of your pillow. The rhythm of your breath. The release of laughter.
Can you embrace the goodness all around you? The stranger who held the door. The tree outside your window. The meal in front of you.
Can you permit yourself to love your world and everything in it, despite those who harm and degrade it? Not naively, but with your eyes wide open, choosing to love regardless.
Can you see yourself as your Inner Angel sees you, with love and admiration for everything you’re willing to experience so you can grow?
This is how we merge the two worlds, not by shirking our responsibilities, but by bringing our Inner Angel into them, by consulting that dedicated companion often throughout the day.
Here are some simple ways to practice integrating the human and inner soul worlds:
Before you eat: Pause. Put your hand over your heart. “Inner Angel, I’m nourishing the home you live in.” Notice how that changes the experience of eating.
In conversation: Before responding, take a breath. “Inner Angel, what do you want me to say here? How do you want me to show up?” Let your words come from that deeper place.
When you’re overwhelmed: Stop. Close your eyes. “Inner Angel, what do you need right now?” Listen. Sometimes it’s just five minutes of quiet. Sometimes it’s a walk outside. Sometimes it’s permission to say no.
At bedtime: Reflect on your day. “Inner Angel, what did we appreciate today? What brought us joy?” Train yourself to notice the goodness you might otherwise overlook.
In difficult moments: Remember my husband on the way to radiation. “It’s sunny. The day is beautiful. You’re here.” What can you appreciate right now, even in this challenging circumstance?
The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is practice. The goal is remembering, again and again, to include your Inner Angel in your human life.
Because here’s the secret: Your Inner Angel makes everything worthwhile. All the love, appreciation, and awareness your soul desires is what transforms ordinary life into something sacred. It’s our human busyness that gets in the way. Our belief that we don’t have time. Our habit of rushing past the moments that matter.
So I ask you again: Will you allow divine communion? Will you allow yourself to be guided by the desires of your Inner Angel? Will you surrender to love and joy?
Not someday. Not when circumstances are perfect.
Now. Today. In this moment.
Your Inner Angel is waiting with eternal patience. Hopefully. Lovingly. Ready to fill your life with the joy and presence you’ve been seeking.
All you have to do is say yes.
